TRAINER
- WRITER - LECTURER
"If
you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life."
Dave
Brown
is a firearms safety specialist and professional instructor.
He has trained a variety of government agencies and specialized
military units on weapons handling and live-fire marksmanship,
as well as teaching firearms training techniques to other instructors.
Dave helped literally "write the book" on firearms
safety in Canada, and has now written over 70 magazine articles
on firearms safety and training for various publications. He
has been an integral part of many movie and stage productions
and was the keynote speaker at the 2002 Halifax conference on
Safety in the Film Industry.

Firearms Safety
Coordinator
As
Firearms Safety Coordinator on movie sets, Dave advises productions
on safety issues as well as trains the cast and supervises gun
sequences. He has worked with hundreds of talented cast and crew
members and has been movie firearms trainer to many of the top
names in Hollywood.
...using
his extensive knowledge of guns to help actors and directors
make scenes as convincing as possible. He shows them how trained
police officers and FBI agents would hold real guns loosely in
their strong hand with their weak hand wrapped around it, squeezing
tightly; how they would keep their fingers off the trigger until
they're about to shoot; how they would pull the trigger with
even, constant pressure, rather than quick, jerky motions; and
even how they would enter a room slowly with their gun pointed
out in front of them, rather than up at the ceiling like James
Bond. -
Peter Vesuwalla, SMART Connections magazine, Summer 2005
Dave
now travels the country teaching workshops on safety and what
he does for a living, and has appeared in front of groups as
far away as Toronto, Halifax and Los Angeles.
Tactical
Firearms Editor
In
1998, Dave was named as the Tactical Firearms Editor for Blue
Line Law Enforcement Magazine, Canada's largest police publication.
He has contributed articles as diverse as police weapons training,
law enforcement technology, police vehicles and officer survival.
One of few civilians respected as an expert in police firearms
training, Dave was invited to testify before the Commons committee
on national security at the House of Commons in Ottawa, on the
topic of arming Canada Border Service Agency officers.
Training
Specialist
Dave
helped design the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and Canadian
Restricted Firearms Safety Course for the government of Canada.
He has also traveled extensively teaching other instructors and
training Department of Justice employees on firearms regulations,
licence forms and conflict resolution skills.
Dave
Brown has designed and delivered a wide range of advanced firearms
courses to many agencies such as: Department of National Defense,
Canada Customs, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Royal Canadian
Mint, Parks Canada, Manitoba Hydro, Manitoba Natural Resources
and Manitoba Corrections. He also coached the Canadian Military
Police combat pistol team and has trained Military Police units
on advanced tactical pistol skills.
I
would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation
for your outstanding support during the Thunderbird Challenge
training camp held between 4 - 9 August 2005 at 17 Wing Winnipeg.
Without exception, the staff and team members considered your
instruction on the pistol the highlight of their training.
Thunderbird
Challenge is an annual exercise designed to select Military Police
members to represent Canada in the international Defender Challenge
competition hosted by the United States Air Force Security Forces.
The pistol shoot is one of the most important (as well as the
most challenging) events of the competition since it requires
members to display their prowess with their individual duty weapons.
As such, it is critical that our members receive only top-notch
training in this area - and this certainly was the case this
year as the team benefited from your expert guidance. - Provost Marshal,
1 Canadian Air Division
Dave
designed a totally new program of shotgun training for wildlife
defense and his training course has now been adopted by a government
agency as a mandatory requirement for employees working in bear
country. His unique program of shotgun training is now becoming
well-known across Canada for its simple and realistic approach
to training employees for life-threatening situations.
Our
employees are the best trained/prepared in the use of firearms
in the field. This is what I hear our employees are being told
by other workers they meet. - Regional Occupational Health
and Safety Adviser, Fisheries and Oceans Canada
