What People Say
“Jim Rondeau is one of the most committed MLAs in recent history to adult and family literacy promotion. He is a passionate advocate of access to lifelong learning as a necessity for progress in his area and across the province. Jim was a founding Board member of the largest provincial literacy coalition, Literacy Workers Alliance of Manitoba, when he served as the adult education coordinator and a teacher with Frontier School Division. With guidance by Jim and other visionaries, that organization celebrated its fifteenth year anniversary as the vibrant Literacy Partners of Manitoba last year. Jim was the first winner of the LPM Lifetime Service Award. He was feted as a community champion for literacy.
He puts his theory into practice, by various strategies:
Jim has devoted much of his life to our province's youth through his work at Norway House and Cranberry Portage as a teacher. Jim worked as a seminar and school experience instructor at the University of Winnipeg and as an educational administrator, and prior to his work at the Manitoba Legislature Jim was the Adult/Work Education Coordinator of the Frontier
School Division. In addition to Jim's work as an educator, he has also contributed his time to literacy issues through volunteer work and played a leading role in establishing 18 adult learning centres throughout the province. It is Jim's work as an educator at all levels within the public schools system that reflects his dedication to all Manitobans young and old.
-hosting a community BBQ for literacy in 2002 and 2001.
-issuing a challenge to other MLAs to contact local literacy groups to mark International Literacy Day in their own constituencies.
-modeling a partnership approach that gathered books, donations and community
choirs to celebrate the community involvement in literacy through co-hosting the Margaret Laurence Award for Volunteer Tutors.
-including literacy contact information in his householder letter to the constituency each fall.
-looking through a literacy lens at government initiatives, policy reviews and outreach to the community.
We congratulate Jim Rondeau on his consistent support for a vital ingredient to Manitoba’s future economic and social development.”

"Jim Rondeau is one of the hardest working, most selfless individuals I have met. He is completely devoted to his constituency and tireless in his efforts to help his community. It was my pleasure to work with him on the Assiniboia Volunteer Appreciation Night - a night devoted to saying 'Thanks'. "
