Having lost in the realm of ideas, those supporting capitalism must compensate by other means. Barack Obama is a very outspoken devotee of capitalism, and has shown by his coup in Honduras — and also the military build-up in Colombia — that he will go to any length to prop-up U.S. corporations and rich investors in the region.
There can be absolutely no doubt that Obama will seek to undermine the Venezuelan government by any means available, including the very real possibility of a proxy invasion through Colombia. None of these attempts to undermine the advances in Venezuela and other countries will benefit the peoples of Latin America or the United States, minus a tiny minority of the super wealthy.

The Venezuelan government has seized temporary control of the processing plants of two of the country's biggest coffee companies.
Officials said the measure was designed to guarantee supply to consumers.
They said the plants, Fama de America and Cafe Madrid, would be audited for any irregularities and could face nationalisation if these were proved.
In March, the government set quotas for 12 basic foods, including coffee, to be produced at regulated prices.
Venezuelan Agriculture Minister Elias Jaua said that the government would take control of the coffee plants for three months to allow an audit.
"If at the end of the audit, we can show there has been smuggling, hoarding, disloyal and monopolistic practices, we could consider nationalising the companies," he said.

Venezuela has seized control of plants and offices belonging to Mexican cement giant Cemex, as it proceeds with nationalising its cement industry.
Government officials backed by the National Guard took over the factories after talks ended without a deal.
It comes a day after France's Lafarge and Swiss group Holcim agreed to hand over local subsidiaries to Caracas.

At a political rally on Monday President Hugo Chavez said Cemex would move into state hands - after 60 days of failed negotiations - adding: "These are all steps towards socialism."
According to reports, supporters waved flags and cheered as the authorities moved in to takeover Cemex's operations.

Chavez is promoting what he calls a "socialist" alternative to the Fund and its biggest shareholder, the U.S. Treasury. The
timing could not be worse for the IMF, whose global clout is diminishing as countries from Uruguay to the Philippines pay their debts.
"Chavez is the No. 1 enemy of the IMF in the region," said José Guerra, a former head of economic research at
Venezuela's central bank and now a professor at Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas. "He views the IMF as an agent in the service of the U.S."
The international lender's worldwide portfolio has shriveled to $11.8 billion from a peak of $81 billion in 2004, and a single
country, Turkey, now accounts for about 75 percent. As its lending wanes, so does the fund's ability to influence government
policies. The IMF and its sister institution, the World Bank, have used aid to promote free trade, unfettered investment flows and limited government.
